This is a SMALL readme.doc file (see the other help files for specific info on specific program.) Before using this program, make sure you have backups of the following files: scenario.pak and any saved games that you will edit. These are the files that you may edit with this program so this is your warning. If you screw up your files, it AINT my fault. If you need someone to blame it on, blame it on apple. I blame them for everything.... :} Here is a list of the files included in this zip file. I fixed some of them because, for some reason (and I triple checked the original files), the scenario.pak file contains some extra wierd characters in some files and I have no idea why. Therefore, I just fixed them and put em in that zip. If the people that made dune2 get pissed at me for releasing part of their program than they can suck my ****. Nose that is! They should've fixed that 'thopter problem in the first place! Oh, that's also fixed in these. One thing, there was only entries for the original scenario files for the thopter in #20 through #22 for EACH of the houses. That doesn't make sense, unless they planned to make thopter's available and then changed their mind completely. Oh well......... I spent quite some time this time around to get the help files etc. ready, so if there's STILL a deluge of "GIMME INFO", then I think I'll need an assistant. Writing is NOT for me..... :} The files for the scenario editor can be put into a different directory, but the save game editor and it's files MUST be in the directory with the save games. What I do is create a directory from \dune2 and keep my scenario editor there. Then, whenever I want to change the scenario file, I just cd into that directory, make my edits (cause I never del the last edited *.ini files), then run the batch file shown for example here: DS ne - Sorts the directory by name (norton's util) pakwest -a ..\scenario.pak *.ini cd .. dune2.exe and that's it... To start the process, I just go into that directory and do: pakwest -e ..\scenario.pak A note: When I wrote the pakwest program, I never included any sort algorithms, so I suggest that you use a directory sorting program before you pack the files. I know this is a nuisance, but I didn't feel like going back and fixing the source. I don't even know if it matters, but if the files originally came sorted by name/extension. Hope you have fun.
