The Palazzo Ducale, Venice. The journey from the island of Guidecca to central Venice is stunning. The large marble building on the opposite shore is the Doge's Palace; just visible behind it are the domes of St. Mark's; and towering above all is the 99-metre Campanile, which fell down on its 1000th birthday but has since been rebuilt "dov'e, com'e" - as it was, where it was.
